And this is why we need good preschools. They are not a panacea, and their impact varies depending on quality, but early childhood education is still an essential first step toward eliminating the achievement gap. Life is unfair; some kids will always be born into households that have much less. Nevertheless, we have a duty to ensure that every child has a chance to learn what he's capable of.One of the points of this blog is to point out that social emotional learning is at least as important as academic learning and preschools encourage that aspect of development. In the U.S.A. much of a child's success is dependent upon economics and preschools work to level that aspect of our education system.

The Dana Foundation makes me think
We just got our latest edition of the Dana Foundation's Brain in the News which has a great article titled, Does Preschool Matter? by Jonah Lehrer. What is relevant in the article is contained in the last paragraph.
